What's InterModeller about?

InterModeller is a computer program designed for learners in building knowledge-based models (also known as expert systems). InterModeller is especially suitable for building models of classification, where the information describes the features of the various classes or categories that make up the topic. For example, an InterModeller model might describe various kinds of spiders, plants, shapes, tools, or vehicles.

To use InterModeller, the first step is to create a new window with the File/New dialogue. This offers several ways of building the knowledge base:

• by drawing an on-screen decision tree like this example
• by drawing an on-screen classification tree like this example
• by creating a decision table like this example, or 
• by writing a set of rules like this example. 

Once complete, the knowledge base can be run to give advice about the subject matter. It can also be extended with designer dialogs that show graphical images, web links, and references to electronic document files. This advice dialog illustrates how designer dialogs can improve the user interface.
