File menu

New... enables the selection of a new model window of a specified type. Also provides an Open... button for  opening an existing model file.

Open... enables the selection of an existing model file for opening. InterModeller uses identical file formats in both Windows and Macintosh versions. This means that a Macintosh model can be opened on a Windows computer and vice-versa. If an InterModeller file does not have a name of form *.imo then you may have to select the 'All files' option in the file dialog before the file becomes visible.

Save saves the current front window without generating the standard file dialogue, unless the window has not previously been saved to file. When a window is saved, any associated images and other information needed for designed dialogs are automatically included in the save file together with other key information including the setting of the Run/Logic menu commands.

Save as... generates the standard file save dialogue, allowing the window to be saved to a named file.

Save as run-only... saves the window in a special form that in future will be opened and immediately run by InterModeller, without exposing the source knowledge base. This command may be useful for packaging a completed expert system for wider distribution, since it will open directly in consultation mode and being non-editable, it will protect the developer's credits. However, be sure to save the window in normal form too or you will be unable to modify the model yourself!  Also, select a save name that clearly distinguishes the run-only file from the normally saved file.

Save Postscript... saves the window in Postscript form, i.e. as a *.eps file. This may be a suitable form in which to distribute an image of the knowledge model to someone who does not have access to InterModeller. Many printers can print Postscript files directly and most computer systems have software for viewing Postscript files, e.g. they are double-clickable on Mac OS X and Microsoft Word documents can incorporate them (Insert/Picture/'From file' command).

Close... closes the current front window. If it has been changed since the last save, the option of saving the window before closing it will be offered.

Print... prints the current front window, first generating a standard dialogue that enables the number of copies to be selected.

Quit ends your InterModeller session.

Undo reverses the last change that has been made to a window by a tool operation or menu command.

Copy copies selected text or graphics from the current front window to InterModeller's private clipboard. For text data, a copy is also placed in the computer's public clipboard from where it could be transferred into a word-processing or other program. At present, graphics data cannot be exported from InterModeller in this way: use a screen-snapshot command instead (e.g. in Windows XP, Alt-PrntScrn copies an image of the front window to the Windows clipboard; in Mac OS X, Cmd-Ctrl-Shift-4 then Spacebar does the same thing).

Cut cuts selected text or graphics from the current front window and copies it into InterModeller's private clipboard. See Copy.

Paste copies the contents of InterModeller's private clipboard into the current front window, assuming this is an InterModeller window of the same type as the data's source window. You can use this command to import text (but not graphics data) from an external application into InterModeller.

Clear clears selected text or graphics.

Select all selects all the text or graphics in the current front window.
